Other things to see and do

The house is in a rural location; however, it sits on the edge of the Mallwyd village and near by Dinas Mawddwy. There is a small shop and post office in the village as well as the Brigands Inn. Not too far away are the market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau.

Anyone wishing to indulge themselves in beautiful, peaceful surroundings will not be disappointed.

Dinas Mawddwy

Dinas is a small village near by and legend has it that it was the home of the Gwylliaid Cochion Mawddwy [Red bandits of Mawddwy]. In the 15th and 16th centuries the surrounding district was plagued by the bandits who ambushed travelers, attacked homes and stole cattle and sheep. Allegedly their meetings took place at the Brigands Inn. The old Mawddwy Railway Station which join trhe main line at Cemmaes has all but gone, but Meirion Mill now stands on the site of the old railway station and quarry buildings.

other thingsMachynlleth

Machynlleth is one the most historical towns in Mid-Wales. Wool made it wealthy, later slate and then later still the railway. Machynlleth was the site of Owain Glyndwr’s rebellion in the early 15th century and it was here that he chose to hold parliament, the buildings of which are now a museum open to the public. There is also a collection of cafes, shops and restaurants.

Dolgellau

Dolgellau is a small market town situated at the foot of the Cader Idris mountain range. The town's development was due to its central part in the county's woolen industry which reached it's peak circa 1800. The Welsh gold rush of the 19th century was also centered in the area. Today it is a busy little town with an array of shops, cafes and pubs.
